The Fulani Youths Movement (FYM) has declared it will no longer remain passive regarding the targeted killing of herdsmen in Plateau State. Following their first meeting in Jos this past Friday, the group expressed deep concern over persistent attacks by ethnic militia gangs in regions such as Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Bokkos, and Mangu.
Adams Jouro, the convener of the movement, released a communique challenging public perceptions of the conflict. He asserted that while media reports often paint Fulani herders as aggressors, the community has actually faced significant losses, including hundreds of deaths and the theft or killing of thousands of cattle since the year began. Jouro specifically highlighted the Berom militias as a primary source of the aggression facing herding families.
While acknowledging that criminal elements exist within all ethnic groups, the FYM insisted that innocent herders should not be blamed for the actions of a few. The group is now demanding that the Plateau State government and local security forces launch independent investigations to address these grievances and ensure justice is served. Their message concludes with a firm declaration that the era of silence regarding these attacks is over.
