The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced an investigation into the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 22 athletes and officials from Kano State, who were returning from the 2025 National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

The fatal crash occurred in Dakatsalle while the delegation was en route back to Kano after participating in the national event.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, represented by the Zonal Commanding Officer in Kaduna, Assistant Corps Marshal Ahmed Umar, disclosed this during a condolence visit to the Kano State Government House.

“Road traffic crashes don’t just happen; they usually occur because of human error, or environmental reasons or a mechanical failure,” Umar said on the visit.

He assured the state government that the findings from the investigation would be made public upon conclusion.

Meanwhile, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who received the FRSC delegation, expressed gratitude for the corps’ prompt response and intervention.
