The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a 60-day closure of the Marine Bridge in Lagos starting Sunday, April 27, for ongoing structural repairs.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha, said the first section at the start of the bridge will be completely closed for 20 days.

This initial closure is expected to cause major traffic disruptions around Apapa, Ijora, and Iganmu.

Kesha clarified that the Marine Bridge often mistaken for the Ijora Bridge will be repaired in phases. Key parts of the structure will be lifted to replace old bearings.

“This phase involves replacing about 50 bearings. To do that, we need to lift the bridge at specific points. The first section at the beginning of the bridge will require a full closure for 20 days,” she said.

Subsequent phases won’t require full closures.

“The second section is around the middle of the bridge. We’ll divert traffic there, merging the two lanes from Iganmu to shift vehicles to one side for another 20 days,” she added.

The final section, near the bridge’s descent into Apapa by Area B Police Command, will also require traffic diversion for 20 days. The entire project will take roughly 60 days, with the most severe congestion expected during the first 20 days.

Kesha advised articulated truck drivers to use alternate routes: “If you’re an articulated truck (driver), don’t come through Ijora. From Costain, link Iganmu and head straight to Apapa.” For smaller vehicles and trucks headed to Ijora 7up, she suggested turning left at the roundabout to use the access route to the bridge. jadeybaby105 is married
