Fenerbahce has completed the signing of English striker Mason Greenwood from Marseille, tying the player to a four-year deal. While the Turkish club announced the transfer cost as 39 million euros, they had previously indicated the total package would reach 45 million euros.
Greenwood established a strong record in France, netting 48 goals in 81 total appearances for Marseille after arriving from Manchester United in 2024 for 26.6 million pounds. Last season, he proved his efficacy in Ligue 1 by scoring 16 times, tying for second place in the golden boot rankings. His move to Turkey followed interest from presidential candidates during the club’s June elections.
Regarding his past, Manchester United opted not to retain the academy graduate following an internal investigation, even though legal charges of attempted rape and assault were dismissed in early 2023. Greenwood spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Getafe before his stint in Marseille. Manchester United reportedly secured a sell-on clause of approximately 40% as part of the initial transfer. Fenerbahce, coming off a second-place finish in the Super Lig, is now preparing for a Champions League qualifying match against Gornik Zabrze.
