The Federal Government has pledged to step up measures against banditry and kidnapping in the South-West region. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, promised that the state is actively working to ensure the safe release of those kidnapped in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area.
Senator Akume shared these assurances during the unveiling of the newly upgraded Premier Hotel in Ibadan. He emphasized that the government is utilizing international partnerships and enhanced security strategies to secure the victims’ release. He further encouraged community leaders and religious institutions to assist security services by sharing vital information.
Regarding national safety, Akume noted that the current administration has significantly invested in strengthening the security framework over the last three years. These improvements include better inter-agency cooperation, advanced surveillance technology, and increased support for the armed forces. He stated that these actions are already producing observable progress across the country.
The event also served to highlight the administration’s ongoing economic reforms, which are intended to foster a stable environment for investment. The renovation of the Premier Hotel was described as a key indicator of growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s future. By modernizing such landmark assets, the government aims to boost tourism and create new job opportunities for the youth.
Representatives from Oyo, Lagos, and Ondo states echoed these sentiments, celebrating the restoration of the iconic hotel as a sign of regional resilience. The Odu’a Investment Company Limited, which manages the facility, confirmed that this project is part of a broader strategy to revitalize legacy assets throughout the South-West to stimulate regional economic growth.
