Federal Character Commission Sets Stricter Rules as Nigerian Ports Authority Endorses Reforms

The Federal Character Commission is implementing harsher penalties for government agencies that ignore its guidelines, while the Nigerian Ports Authority has pledged its support for these new reform efforts.

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has issued a stern warning to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies regarding stricter consequences for those who breach the Federal Character Act. This announcement occurred during a meeting in Abuja between the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the FCC’s Committee on Works, Transport, and Aviation.

Hon. Peter Eze, who leads the committee, explained that the NPA was updated on the agency’s updated compliance strategies and operational procedures. He emphasized that the FCC is implementing rigorous monitoring and tougher penalties to guarantee that all government entities adhere to principles of equity and inclusion. Under the guidance of Executive Chairman Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, these reforms aim to eliminate non-compliance across the public sector.

Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director and CEO of the NPA, pledged the organization’s full cooperation. He noted that partnerships between government bodies are vital for national progress and lauded the FCC’s recent efforts to boost transparency and institutional accountability. Both parties expressed confidence that this closer working relationship will strengthen governance and ensure that regulatory policies are followed strictly.
