FCT Police Redeploy DPO Caught On Camera Slapping Young Man
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following the circulation of a viral video showing him slapping a young man.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 22, sparked outrage on social media after the footage surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), drawing widespread condemnation from Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner described the officer’s conduct as “unprofessional and unacceptable,” stressing that it fell short of the discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of officers under his command.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the officer’s actions, which fall below the high standards of the Nigeria Police Force. Such behaviour will not be tolerated under his leadership,” the statement read.
Adeh disclosed that the erring officer has been redeployed to the State Headquarters pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
While reaffirming his commitment to accountability and ethical policing, CP Dantawaye directed all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to maintain professionalism, courtesy, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
“Any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions,” he warned.
The police chief also urged members of the public to remain respectful and law-abiding in their interactions with officers, emphasizing that mutual respect and cooperation are crucial to community safety.
Residents of the FCT were further encouraged to report suspicious activities or misconduct to the Command’s emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913, or via the Complaint Response Unit (CRU): 08107314192.
