Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recently challenged former Senate President David Mark regarding his past track record on infrastructure. Wike claimed that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu has successfully completed more road projects in three years than were achieved during Mark’s lengthy tenure as a national leader.
The comments were delivered during the unveiling of the Jahi-Gwarinpa interchange in Abuja, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio appeared on behalf of President Tinubu. Wike noted that the African Democratic Congress had previously acknowledged the government’s progress on road networks, which he described as essential for economic and social development.
Comparing the past to the present, Wike pointed specifically to the Akwanga-Makurdi road. He asserted that while David Mark relied on helicopters for transport during his time as Senate President, the current administration’s focus has made the journey driveable for citizens. Wike praised the Tinubu government for prioritizing the completion of existing projects rather than abandoning them, highlighting the Jahi-Gwarinpa interchange as a prime example of a previously stalled initiative that was brought to fruition.
The minister also addressed accusations that the administration ignores non-road infrastructure. He highlighted significant investments in water supply systems, specifically citing completed projects in Karu and an upcoming facility in Bwari set for launch on July 14. Wike maintained that these efforts reflect the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of residents across all satellite towns.
