A violent dispute between rival youth gangs in Minna, Niger State, has resulted in a fatality and left two individuals injured. The incident took place in the Dutsen-Kura Gwari and Fadikpe districts late Sunday night. Locals reported that the neighborhoods have been plagued by persistent criminal activities and street fighting for several months.
Following an increase in hostilities that began on Thursday, community members contacted law enforcement to manage the situation. When officers from the GRA Division arrived, a firefight erupted. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police spokesperson, stated that the officers were fired upon by the youths upon arrival. During the resulting exchange of gunfire, a man named Mohammed Mohammed was killed, while two others were wounded.
Authorities also reported that a suspect named Ismail Shehu sustained injuries from a machete. Police successfully confiscated two homemade firearms from the area and have launched a search for other participants who managed to escape. Local residents are now urging security forces and community leaders to implement permanent solutions to stop the ongoing cycle of youth violence.
