Ezza Ezekuna Group Asserts Ebonyi North Should Retain Governorship Until 2031

The Ezza Ezekuna Development Association insists the Ebonyi governorship must remain in the North until 2031, dismissing a rival group as legally illegitimate.

The Ezza Ezekuna Development Association (EEDA) has formally stated that the Ebonyi State governorship must stay within the Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone until the 2031 election cycle. The group emphasized that this position is essential for maintaining political stability, equity, and fairness across the region.

During a press briefing in Abakaliki, EEDA leadership, including National President Chief Kingsley Akam, Secretary Comrade Uchechukwu Edeh, and Professor Chike Emmanuel Onwe, rejected a recent statement from a group calling itself the Umuekumenyi Leaders’ Council. This self-styled council had previously voiced support for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ifeanychukwuma Odii, who hails from the Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone.

Chief Akam clarified that the Umuekumenyi Leaders’ Council lacks any legal standing, as it is not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Furthermore, the association asserted that the entity has no constitutional basis within the Umuekumenyi clans. Akam described the group as a political instrument created by individuals to serve private interests rather than the public good.

The EEDA reaffirmed its commitment to the state’s established zoning protocols. The association argues that because the other two senatorial zones in Ebonyi have served their respective tenures, the North should be permitted to complete its own two terms. According to the EEDA, upholding this rotation is the most effective way to protect the peace and structural harmony that the state has fostered since its inception.
