The National Sports Commission (NSC) has finalized a fresh agreement with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, successfully resolving a period of speculation regarding his position. NSC chairman Shehu Dikko announced the development during a Tuesday session in Abuja, joined by NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and key federation stakeholders.
The previous contract for the Franco-Malian manager was set to conclude in late 2026, and extension talks had been ongoing for an extended period. The revised agreement includes a salary increase for Chelle. Notably, the NFF has committed to funding the wages of his assistant coaching staff, a responsibility that previously fell upon the head coach personally.
Dikko emphasized that specific performance benchmarks have been introduced to the agreement. Furthermore, Chelle will now oversee the men’s U-23 squad as part of a long-term strategic plan for Nigerian football. While specific financial details and the exact duration of the new deal remain private, the coach is tasked with qualifying the U-23 team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a feat Nigeria has not achieved since 2016.
Chelle began his tenure with the Super Eagles in 2025, leading the team to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco that same year.
