Dr. Sebastine Okafor, Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, has pointed to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) as the primary cause of the persistent instability within the state branch. Conflict has plagued the Enugu chapter since the state congress concluded on May 4, 2026, as certain NWC figures have reportedly tried to invalidate the elected State Working Committee, which includes Dr. Johnpaul Anih.
Tensions intensified during recent primary elections, leading to public disagreements. Recently, a faction led by Sir SKC Ogbonnia publicly criticized Chief Dr. Mathias Omeh for his alleged role in these disputes. In response, Okafor issued a statement on Monday defending Omeh, characterizing the accusations as misleading and an unfair attempt to misdirect blame. He argued that the problematic decisions originated from the NWC, not Omeh, whom he praised for consistently promoting reconciliation and party cohesion.
Okafor advised aggrieved members to utilize formal dispute resolution channels or legal avenues rather than resorting to public attacks on respected leaders. He emphasized that the state leadership, under Anih, remains focused on internal democracy and has pledged to pursue justice through the courts to prevent the imposition of leaders. Ultimately, Okafor urged party members to prioritize organizational growth over personal vendettas, insisting that political disagreements should be handled with maturity and respect.
