Agbo Gilbert Major, the National Chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that former Kano Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso treated the political party as a tool for his own negotiations. Major voiced these claims during a Tuesday interview on Trust TV.
Kwankwaso, who represented the NNPP in the 2023 presidential race, is presently the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming cycle. Major explained that he felt excluded from Kwankwaso’s strategic decisions as party leader.
Highlighting his skepticism, Major noted that Kwankwaso’s campaign behavior was inconsistent. He alleged that Kwankwaso largely bypassed the Southeast and Southwest regions, focusing his limited campaign efforts almost exclusively on Kano and parts of Jigawa. According to the chairman, this geographic narrowness suggested that the candidate had no intention of a genuine nationwide run. Major concluded that the party was merely used as leverage to serve Kwankwaso’s personal interests rather than the collective goals of the organization.
