England Squad Prepares for Extreme Heat Ahead of Lord’s T20 Clash

England’s T20 cricket team plans to use cooling vests and ice packs to combat predicted 35C heat during their match against the West Indies at Lord’s.

England’s T20 World Cup squad is preparing to face soaring temperatures during their upcoming match against the West Indies at Lord’s. With London under a rare red heat warning and forecasts predicting 35C, stand-in captain Charlie Dean stated the team will use equipment similar to Formula One drivers, including cooling vests and ice-filled grips, to manage the intense conditions.

The team is drawing on their previous experience playing in hotter climates like India and Australia to cope with the heat. In addition to physical cooling aids, players may use techniques like chewing mints to simulate a cooling effect. Official bodies, including the ICC and ECB, have established strict safety protocols and medical support to monitor the well-being of both athletes and the crowd. Accessible air-conditioned areas will be provided for spectators, and the match could be suspended if conditions are deemed hazardous.

England currently sits at the top of Group 2 with three consecutive wins. A fourth victory would guarantee their spot in the semi-finals. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt continues to sit out due to a calf injury, though Dean reported that she is recovering well and remains an important presence for the group while sidelined.
