The Edo State Police Command has officially prohibited public movement across the state to facilitate today’s local government elections. This restriction remains in effect from midnight until 6 pm on Saturday, July 11.
Police Public Relations Officer Aso Eno Ikoedem announced that the force is working alongside other security partners to maintain peace. This security strategy aims to protect voters, polling staff, and election materials while preventing civil disorder. During the enforcement period, all human and vehicle transit is banned, with exceptions only for essential service providers, accredited journalists, election observers, security personnel, and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Officers have been positioned throughout the eighteen local government areas to ensure total compliance. State Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika stated that authorities are prepared to prosecute anyone who disrupts the voting process. He encouraged residents to head to the polls peacefully and participate according to the rules set by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
