Eckersley’s triple effort propels Wigan past Huddersfield

Zach Eckersley scored three times to lead the Wigan Warriors to a hard-fought victory over Huddersfield, closing the gap at the top of the Super League table.

Zach Eckersley recorded a hat-trick of tries, helping the Wigan Warriors defeat the Huddersfield Giants and move within two points of the top of the Super League standings. Eckersley’s performance brought his total to 19 tries for the current campaign.

Despite heading into the match on an 11-game losing streak, Huddersfield challenged Wigan throughout. Taane Milne initially put the bottom-placed side ahead. However, Wigan responded with scores from Oliver Partington and Eckersley, establishing a 10-4 lead by halftime.

Huddersfield rallied after the break, leveling the score through a Jacob Gagai try. The game shifted when Huddersfield’s Joe Greenwood received a sin-bin for dissent. Capitalizing on the man advantage, Adam Keighran kicked a penalty before Eckersley completed his hat-trick with two late scores to seal the victory for Matt Peet’s squad.
