The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has officially launched its campaign for the local government and councillorship elections scheduled for August 22. Party leadership is encouraging supporters to focus on grassroots engagement, peaceful conduct, and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
During the launch in Ikwo Local Government Area, Deputy Governor Patricia Obila, representing Governor Francis Nwifuru, handed the party flag to chairmanship candidate Henry Chidi Nwode. Obila characterized the candidates as highly capable and urged party members to run an issue-oriented campaign, cautioning them against being swayed by negative propaganda.
Former Governor Martin Elechi addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the electoral process should be conducted without intimidation. He reminded political participants that citizens possess the constitutional right to choose their party affiliations freely. Similarly, Assembly Speaker Moses Odunwa and Representative Chinedu Ogah called for party unity and urged voters to ensure they have their PVCs ready for the upcoming ballot.
State APC Chairman Stanley Okoro Emegha highlighted the strong standing of the party within Ikwo, noting the overwhelming support from local residents. The Attorney-General, Dr. Ben Odoh, echoed these sentiments, labeling the area a stronghold for the ruling party.
Accepting the nomination, Henry Chidi Nwode thanked the party leadership and pledged to lead an administration centered on accountability and inclusion. His outlined priorities for the council include rural infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and the empowerment of youth and women. He reaffirmed his commitment to a vigorous, peaceful campaign leading up to the August 22 poll.
