A yet-to-be-identified driver lost his life after a 40-foot container-laden truck collapsed onto a commercial Nissan Micra taxi at the Soka area of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The fatal accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025, involving a trailer transporting bales of clothing and a Micra taxi with registration number BDJ 981 ZY. The car was completely crushed beneath the container, trapping the driver inside.

Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police, and the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA) responded to the scene, working to recover the wreckage and retrieve the deceased driver’s body.

According to Punch, rescuers had to cut through parts of the mangled vehicle with a machete to reach the victim.

An eyewitness identified as Yusuf attributed the crash to concrete barricades left behind by contractors after road repairs. “It happened around 2 p.m. while it was raining. The truck tried to avoid large concrete barriers left on the road, hit the Micra, and then overturned, trapping the driver. Those barriers should have been removed long ago,” he said.

An FRSC officer at the site confirmed the account, stating that the truck swerved to dodge the barriers, collided with the Micra, and toppled over it.

OYTMA General Manager Adeoye Adekola also confirmed the driver’s death, noting that the body had been taken to Adeoyo Hospital, Ring Road. “The container, loaded with clothes, is still on site, but we have separated the truck and moved it to Sanyo Police Station,” he said.

Adekola cited impatience, speeding, and the absence of reflectors on the road barriers as key causes of the accident. He added that the crash occurred when the truck driver tried to swerve upon sighting the barrier too late, overturning and crushing the Micra, whose driver died instantly. Traffic has since been cleared and normal flow restored.
