Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington was removed from a WNBA game against the Indiana Fever after a flagrant two foul against Sophie Cunningham. During the first quarter, Carrington struck Cunningham across the head while the Fever player attempted a layup. Following a review, officials ejected Carrington, who had recorded eight points in limited play.
Shortly after her exit, Carrington shared a post on the platform Threads writing “WHITE PRIVILIGE” and tagging the Indiana Fever. When asked about the comment, Cunningham stated the incident was unrelated to race, noting she had received similar penalties in the past for hard fouls. Sky coach Tyler Marsh indicated the team would address the situation internally once more information was gathered. Fever head coach Stephanie White described the contact as a hard foul, stating the officials reached the correct decision, while referee Maj Forsberg noted that Cunningham was not penalized for her immediate reaction to the hit.
Separately, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark avoided a potential suspension after league officials rescinded a technical foul she received during the third quarter. Had the foul stood, it would have been her eighth of the season, resulting in an automatic one-game ban.
