Diddy Starts 30-Month Federal Sentence at Fort Dix
Sean “Diddy” Combs has formally commenced his federal incarceration at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security correctional facility in New Jersey, where he is anticipated to serve the next two and a half years.
The entertainment magnate was moved to the site early Thursday, immediately starting the intake process, according to reports from law enforcement. This transfer occurs after Judge Arun Subramanian handed down a 50-month prison sentence, with the Federal Bureau of Prisons approving Combs’s request to be housed at Fort Dix.
Combs’s legal representatives indicated the facility was selected because it offers better opportunities to tackle substance abuse issues, provides greater access to family visits, and emphasizes rehabilitation during his time there.
Since his arrest and subsequent denial of bail in September 2024, the rapper and entrepreneur had been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, a facility known for being significantly more challenging due to overcrowding and violence than the conditions at Fort Dix.
However, even with the move to a less restrictive security level, attorney Mark Geragos expressed concern on the “2 Angry Men” podcast that his client remains at risk, suggesting Combs will have a “target on his back” and face credible threats of both sexual and physical violence while imprisoned.
These safety worries were previously highlighted by Diddy’s team during his sentencing, where they disclosed incidents of an inmate planning a knife assault and another where a blade was held to his neck while he was in custody.
As Combs adjusts to his new surroundings, the Bureau of Prisons projects a release date of May 8, 2028. This date is subject to change based on his behavior, participation in rehabilitation programs, and other factors throughout his confinement.
