Depot Nigerian Army Requests Proof Regarding Misconduct Claims at UNIOSUN

The Depot Nigerian Army is calling for concrete evidence from witnesses and victims after Osun State University students alleged that military personnel invaded their hostels, committed physical assaults, and engaged in sexual misconduct.

The Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo has formally asked victims and witnesses to submit evidence regarding claims of misconduct against soldiers who recently graduated. This request follows accusations from Osun State University (UNIOSUN) management and students, who allege that these soldiers entered university hostels on Monday night, where they reportedly assaulted students, stole property, and committed sexual violence.

Major Ibrahim Yahaya, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, stated on Friday that a Board of Inquiry is actively investigating these reports. The Army emphasizes its commitment to a transparent process and warns that any soldier found guilty will face strict disciplinary action under the Armed Forces Act. Regarding reports of rape circulating online, the Army clarified that it has yet to receive any formal medical reports or official complaints from the university to support such serious allegations.

Officials are urging the public and student organizations to refrain from spreading unverified information that might hinder the investigation or cause unnecessary tension. Witnesses or victims who possess relevant photographs, videos, or medical documentation are encouraged to bring this information to the Depot Nigerian Army headquarters in Osogbo. The military has guaranteed that all informants will have their identities protected while the board works to ensure accountability.
