British tennis player Emma Raducanu is facing significant uncertainty regarding her readiness for Wimbledon after prematurely ending a Saturday training session. Following the decision to stop her practice match against Russian player Anna Kalinskaya with ten minutes remaining, Raducanu also cancelled her scheduled press briefing.
The 30th-seeded player is currently set to face Antonia Ruzic of Croatia on Court One this Monday. Raducanu had previously skipped training sessions on Thursday and Friday due to a suspected shin injury. Although she attempted to test her fitness on Saturday while wearing support tape on her lower right leg, she ultimately felt unable to finish the session.
Tournament officials confirmed that her media engagement has been pushed to Sunday. This setback follows a difficult period for the 2021 US Open winner, who has struggled with various physical ailments and illnesses throughout the year. While she recently showed promising form by reaching the final at Queen’s, the physical demands of playing five matches in six days appear to have hindered her preparations for the upcoming Grand Slam.
