Court Grants Sowore, Ejimakor, Kanu’s Brother, And 10 Others Bail Over #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to publisher and activist Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor (a member of Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team), Prince Emmanuel Kanu (the IPOB leader’s brother), and ten others.

The court set bail at ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

According to PUNCH Online, the thirteen defendants were arrested and arraigned for allegedly inciting public disturbance and breach of peace during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on Monday, October 20.

While Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and the other protesters were detained during the demonstration and subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility, Sowore was arrested separately on October 23 at the Federal High Court premises in Abuja, where he had gone to show solidarity during Kanu’s terrorism trial.

The case is expected to continue as the court sets a date for further hearing, amid growing calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release and renewed debate over freedom of expression and protest in Nigeria.
