A body identified as the Concerned Fulani in Plateau, CFP, has expressed grave concern regarding the deployment of unauthorized drones to track rural Fulani settlements. These activities have been reported specifically within the Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bokkos local government areas.
In a public statement released on Sunday, the organization warned that these surveillance tactics appear to be carried out by individuals associated with Berom militia groups. Coordinator Umar Jouro stated that the use of advanced tracking technology serves as a precursor to physical attacks, putting women and children at severe risk.
The group specifically pointed to a social media user named Gabriel G. Mex, who allegedly circulated drone footage of the Mahanga community in Riyom on July 16 and 17, 2026. The CFP argues that broadcasting these locations compromises the constitutional right to privacy and violates the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023.
Highlighting the volatility of the region, the statement urged the Plateau State government, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and security agencies to launch a thorough investigation. The CFP emphasized that technology should promote peace rather than facilitate intimidation, ethnic profiling, or the endangerment of civilian lives.
