Citizens must enforce leadership accountability, says former presidential candidate

Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju calls on Nigerians to hold leaders accountable to ensure the country’s survival, emphasizing that national renewal starts with moral values within the home.

Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, a former presidential hopeful under the Democratic Leadership Alliance, argues that Nigeria’s future depends on citizens holding their leaders responsible. In a statement released in Akure, she emphasized that the nation faces significant risks if the populace neglects its civic duties.

Busari-Akinnadeju stressed that national reconstruction requires active citizen participation rather than relying solely on the government. She encouraged Nigerians to reject incompetence, corruption, and the normalization of wrongdoing, noting that true reform begins within the home. She defined accountability as demanding transparency and questioning leadership rather than resorting to insults.

The former aspirant highlighted that leadership is a public trust, not a personal benefit. She urged citizens to prioritize integrity over tribal, religious, or partisan loyalties. Furthermore, she called on women to take a leading role in nation-building, suggesting that homes are the primary training grounds for moral standards. By raising children to reject dishonesty and violence, families contribute directly to the stability and integrity of the country.
