Yu Menglong, one of China’s most recognisable actors, has died at the age of 37 after falling from a building in Beijing.
His management team confirmed the tragedy in a video statement shared on Weibo on Thursday, September 11, saying, “With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death. Police have ruled out any criminality. We hope he rests in peace and his loved ones remain strong.”
The news has stunned fans across Asia. Yu was best known for his role in the hit fantasy romance series Eternal Love, which attracted over 50 billion views on Netflix within 18 months.
Speculation surrounding his de@th began hours before the official announcement, after a paparazzi account claimed Yu had fallen “from a height” at a friend’s apartment. The now-deleted post alleged he had spent the night with several friends, locked himself in a guest room around 2 a.m., and was later found on the ground floor by a resident walking their dog at 6 a.m.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, but foul play has been ruled out.
