Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire confirmed on Monday that legendary Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has joined the team on a contract lasting through the 2027-28 season. The 37-year-old goalscorer moves to Illinois following a successful tenure at Barcelona, where he helped secure a La Liga title last month.
Known for an incredible career that includes stints at Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowski brings a resume featuring over 700 career goals and numerous major honors, including a UEFA Champions League title and ten Bundesliga championships. He was also honored as the Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2020 and 2021.
Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter praised the signing, stating that Lewandowski exemplifies the championship standard and competitive spirit the organization strives to achieve. The club currently holds third place in the Eastern Conference standings as they approach the mid-season break.
Lewandowski joins an illustrious list of international stars who have previously represented the Chicago Fire, such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Hristo Stoichkov. The team is looking to build on their current momentum to secure success in the upcoming seasons.
