Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rivers State experienced intense disorder this Monday after unpredictable gunfire caused widespread distress among the student body. Early reports suggested the disturbance stemmed from a hostile confrontation between rival groups, identified as the Vikings and the Black Axe, on school grounds. Witnesses noted that the shooting persisted for roughly 20 minutes, leaving the campus in a state of anxiety.
A viral video captured during the incident depicts several individuals racing away from the university buildings to find safety. However, the President of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Alex Onu, has disputed claims that a cult clash took place on campus. According to Onu, the gunfire originated from the Rivers State Police Command. Officers discharged their weapons to clear the area of unauthorized individuals who had entered the institution amid the ongoing Students’ Union Week festivities. Onu maintained that these intruders did not provoke the police but promptly exited the grounds once the warning shots were fired.
