Beginning January 1, 2027, Nigerian citizens will be permitted to enter Chad and the Republic of the Congo without a visa. This change is part of a collective effort by both nations to scrap entry permit requirements for all individuals holding passports from African countries.
Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, revealed this initiative in July 2026, emphasizing that the goal is to foster stronger regional cooperation and simplify the movement of both goods and people. Similarly, President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo confirmed his nation’s participation during the 2026 African Development Bank Group Annual Meetings held in Brazzaville.
While travelers will still need to adhere to basic administrative and security protocols, the removal of visa hurdles is designed to bolster continental integration. These policy updates align with broader objectives to enhance trade and connectivity across Africa, supporting the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
