A 102-year-old man identified as Phillip Ormerod has passed away in the hospital, several days after he was reportedly attacked at the Crow’s Nest pub in Cwmbran. The incident occurred on August 1.
Robert Ormerod, the son of the deceased, remembered his father as a prominent figure in the community who frequented the pub multiple times each week. Despite living with dementia, Phillip remained an independent presence in the Llanyrafon area where he had resided for decades. Younger patrons often treated him to drinks, acknowledging his status as a local regular.
Following the decline of his eyesight in recent years, Robert and his brother assisted their father with domestic tasks and groceries. Although Robert acknowledged that his father faced health challenges due to his advanced age, he noted that the loss is deeply felt. Phillip, a former design draughtsman, had lived alone since the passing of his wife 40 years prior.
Authorities were dispatched to the Crow’s Nest at approximately 10:25 pm on the night of the assault. A 56-year-old resident of Llanelli has been arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the details surrounding both the alleged attack and the subsequent death of Mr. Ormerod.
