World number three Carlos Alcaraz is preparing for a comeback at next month’s Cincinnati Open after being sidelined by a wrist injury. The seven-time Grand Slam winner has been out of competition since sustaining the injury at the Barcelona Open in April. His absence has forced him to skip both the French Open and Wimbledon, preventing him from defending his Roland Garros title.
While Alcaraz will sit out the upcoming Canadian Open in Montreal, he plans to compete in the Cincinnati Masters, scheduled for August 13-23. Participation in this event is intended to gauge his fitness ahead of the US Open, where he aims to defend his championship title. Alcaraz is also the defending winner of the Cincinnati tournament, having secured the victory last year after Jannik Sinner retired from the final due to illness.
Elsewhere, Emma Raducanu remains uncertain for the US Open as she recovers from a stress fracture in her lower leg. Meanwhile, British tennis player Arthur Fery has secured a spot in the Cincinnati field following his rise to a career-high ranking of 36th in the world after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals.
