During the recent 2026 International Youth Day event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State government and various partners received calls to bolster entrepreneurship and empowerment initiatives for youth and persons with disabilities. The celebration, held under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspiration,” focused on fostering inclusive economic growth and innovation for these demographics.
Dr. Odumusi Emmanuel, CEO of Edfrica, emphasized that collaboration between the private sector and the government is essential to bridge existing gaps. He pointed out that while funding and policy frameworks exist, their execution is often insufficient. He urged for the genuine inclusion of disabled individuals in all development plans, noting that global progress remains incomplete without their participation.
Addressing young people, Dr. Emmanuel advised them to stay resilient against current economic hardships. He stressed that dedication, personal investment, and hard work are necessary components of long-term success.
Participants Temitope Ajao and Grace Animasaun expressed gratitude for the event and formally requested that the state government improve the implementation of disability laws. They advocated for policies that prioritize the rights, welfare, and integration of disabled citizens, particularly women, to ensure they can contribute effectively to society.
