CAC to Mandate Business Letter Requirements Starting August 1, 2026

Starting August 1, 2026, the Corporate Affairs Commission will enforce strict documentation requirements for business letters, requiring companies to disclose director details and registration information or face penalties.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has declared that it will strictly enforce regulatory standards for company business correspondence starting August 1, 2026. Businesses that fail to meet these requirements will be subject to penalties. This announcement was shared by the commission via its official X account on Wednesday.

As stipulated by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, formal business letters must contain specific information. This includes the legal name of the entity, its registration number, and detailed particulars regarding its directors. Specifically, companies must list the current forenames, initials, and surnames of all directors, along with any previous names and the nationalities of directors who are not Nigerian citizens.

These rules apply to all standard business communications, such as invoices, official quotes, and general correspondence. The enforcement will specifically uphold the provisions found in Sections 304(1) and 304(2) of the Act. The commission has strongly encouraged all organizations to ensure their documentation is updated before the August deadline to avoid potential sanctions.
