The Bundesliga revealed on Wednesday that reigning champions Bayern Munich are scheduled to welcome Stuttgart for the initial match of the 2026-27 campaign on August 28. While opening games typically place the defending title-holders on the road, this year marks a change to that tradition.
Bayern and Stuttgart met four times in the previous season. One notable encounter was the German Cup final, where Bayern secured a 3-0 victory following three goals from Harry Kane.
The league is set to publish the complete schedule on Thursday. Officials have already disclosed dates for the highly anticipated Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke. Dortmund is set to travel to Schalke this December, with the return fixture scheduled for April. This series marks the first time the clubs meet since 2023, following Schalke’s promotion back to the top tier of German football after a three-year absence.
