Babatunde Ogala, previously the National Legal Adviser for the All Progressives Congress, stated on Thursday that President Bola Tinubu remains eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on the Politics Today program on Channels Television, Ogala dismissed ongoing debates regarding the president’s background and documentation.
Addressing the controversy over Tinubu not providing primary and secondary school records to the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ogala emphasized that constitutional requirements focus on Nigerian citizenship and age rather than the submission of specific school papers. He argued that the constitutional standard for education—interpreted as having reached a primary school level—does not mandate the production of specific certificates.
Ogala further questioned the relevance of inquiries into the president’s family history, asserting that his eligibility is supported by law unless a court rules otherwise. He likened the scrutiny of the president’s educational credentials to questioning the professional qualifications of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
