Bayer Leverkusen Executive Confident in Victor Boniface’s Resurgence

Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes remains hopeful that Victor Boniface can return to his best form after a difficult loan spell hampered by injury.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has expressed optimism that striker Victor Boniface can regain his peak performance levels with the team. This follows a challenging 2025/26 campaign where Boniface went on loan to Werder Bremen after an attempted move to AC Milan did not materialize. During his time at Bremen, the Nigerian international appeared in only 11 matches, largely due to ongoing knee issues.

Because Werder Bremen opted not to trigger a permanent transfer, the forward has returned to Leverkusen. Addressing the player’s physical condition, Rolfes noted that while the knee appears to be healing well, managing weight remains a priority for the coaching staff. The club aims to rehabilitate him fully so he can return to his previous standard. Rolfes mentioned to Sport Bild that getting Boniface back to his best will provide him with future opportunities at various clubs. Boniface, who has two years remaining on his contract, is slated to begin pre-season training with the Bundesliga side next week.
