The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a 35-year-old man in connection with the theft of roofing materials worth N2.26 million in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area. Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib confirmed that the breakthrough was achieved through a combination of intelligence gathering and regular patrol efforts.
The investigation began after a shop owner reported a break-in at his premises on Kano Road. The victim discovered that intruders had used a master key to gain entry and steal 460 metres of Stonecut roofing sheets. Detectives from the Azare Police Division responded to the scene and tracked the stolen goods to the Azare–Jama’are Road.
During the operation, officers apprehended 35-year-old Muktari Rufa’i. Under questioning, Rufa’i admitted to the crime and implicated an accomplice named Evra Pizo, who remains at large. Police are actively searching for the second suspect.
Rufa’i is currently held at the Azare Division, with plans to move the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for legal processing. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the officers for their rapid intervention and encouraged local residents to maintain cooperation with security forces by reporting suspicious activities.
