Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has attributed Nigeria’s escalating security crisis to excessive government spending and bloated budgets. Citing data that 5,091 people died in violent attacks over a three-month period, Atiku argued that this figure serves as a severe indictment of President Bola Tinubu’s inability to secure the nation.
A statement released by Atiku’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, emphasized that these numbers represent a tragic human toll stemming from a government that lacks the necessary focus and discipline. According to the statement, the administration’s habit of prioritizing political projects over essential security needs hinders the armed forces from effectively addressing threats.
While Atiku acknowledged the recent salary adjustments for military personnel, he maintained that money alone is insufficient to boost morale. He stressed that troops require reliable equipment, consistent support, and the knowledge that the government is fully committed to their success. Ultimately, the former Vice President concluded that the state has failed its primary constitutional obligation to protect its citizens from violence.
