Atiku Abubakar actively pursuing 2027 presidential bid, says aide

Paul Ibeh, an aide to Atiku Abubakar, has confirmed the former Vice President’s serious intent to run for president in 2027, citing ongoing discussions with the African Democratic Congress to build a coalition against the incumbent administration.

Atiku’s 2027 Ambitions Confirmed

Paul Ibeh, a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has affirmed that his principal is actively planning to run for president in the 2027 election. This confirmation came via an X post on Tuesday, addressing an inquiry from human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong regarding the seriousness of the former PDP presidential candidate’s political intentions.

Ibeh indicated that Abubakar is presently in discussions with officials and key stakeholders within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to assess the feasibility of his potential candidacy. Should he secure the ADC nomination, the aide noted that Abubakar will seek broad public support to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the current All Progressives Congress government.

Using a metaphor of an iroko tree, Ibeh emphasized that a single leader cannot succeed alone and that a broad coalition is necessary to challenge the current administration. He concluded by questioning if the Nigerian populace is ready to move away from the economic hardships currently attributed to the leadership of President Tinubu.
