Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres has been summoned to testify in a major legal case in Sweden.
His agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Swedish outlets Fotboll Sthlm and Expressen, following reports accusing him and his agency, HCM Sports Management, of having ties to criminal organizations.
In July, police investigated after shots were fired at the residence of a relative of one of Gyokeres’ representatives in Huddinge, near Stockholm. Authorities suspect the incident may be linked to the striker’s transfer, after claims surfaced that the relative had boasted about receiving part of the transfer fee.
Swedish police have previously warned that organized crime groups may attempt to exploit those involved in professional football for financial gain.
It has since been confirmed that Gyokeres will serve as a witness in the defamation trial and provide testimony about a childhood friend when the case is heard at Stockholm District Court in 2026.
Cetinkaya’s lawyer, Joakim Lundqvist, said the player will be questioned regarding certain aspects of the submitted evidence.
The allegations against Cetinkaya, one of Sweden’s most prominent football agents, and his firm were published last year, claiming that men linked to organized crime were helping HCM recruit young players.
Cetinkaya has denied the accusations and taken legal action against Expressen and its editor-in-chief, insisting: “I have built my career independently, achieving levels no other Swedish agent has, without support or involvement from criminals.”
Gyokeres is expected to confirm that his childhood acquaintance, who is central to the controversy, has no professional or personal ties to either Cetinkaya or HCM Sports Management.
Speaking to SVT Sport, Lundqvist reiterated: “He has been called to testify about matters raised in the evidence.”
The trial is set to run from February 4 to 11 next year.
