A man has been shot by police after stabbing multiple people inside an Illinois Toyota car dealership.

The assailant attacked several people inside the Brian Bemis Toyota dealership on Sycamore Road.

DeKalb County police repeatedly instructed the assailant to drop the knife and opened fire when he refused to comply.

City Manager Bill Nicklas stated that although several staff members sustained stab wounds, none of the injuries were life-threatening.

‘DeKalb police responded to a call where a person was wielding a knife and stabbing employees,’ Nicklas said.

‘Police responded and commanded the alleged assailant to cease. He did not comply, and the incident ended in a police-involved shooting.’

One of the injured employees suffered a stab wound “to an extremity”.

The alleged suspect was taken to the hospital, where his condition was reported as stable and he is expected to survive.

Police stated that the assailant was not a staff member or employee of the dealership and was armed with multiple knives.
