Angharad Evans captured her inaugural European Championship gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in Paris. The 23-year-old British swimmer dominated the final with a time of 1:04.87, establishing both a new British record and a championship record.
Evans outperformed Ireland’s Mona McSharry, who secured silver, and Italy’s Benedetta Pilato, who finished with bronze. This victory builds on her performance in the semi-finals, where she initially set the championship record.
In other competition updates, Filip Nowacki excelled in the men’s 200m breaststroke semi-finals, leading his team-mate Greg Butler into the final. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Amalie Smith earned a silver medal for Great Britain in the 400m individual medley, finishing just behind Irish gold medalist Ellen Walshe. Additionally, Italy’s Sara Curtis made headlines by establishing a new world record in the 50m backstroke, clocking in at 26.63 seconds to surpass Kaylee McKeown’s previous mark.
