The Anambra State administration has implemented strict strategies to curb the recurring issue of building collapses, aiming to protect residents and their assets. Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, announced this decision following an Executive Council assembly in Awka.
According to Mefor, any engineers or regulatory officials identified as blameworthy for structural failures will face consequences. The government intends to pursue legal action if investigations reveal negligence or criminal conduct. Furthermore, the council has ordered mandatory structural integrity assessments for all large residential buildings, specifically including student housing, to prevent future catastrophes.
In preparation for the state’s 35th anniversary on August 27, 2026, the council also authorized several developmental projects. Notable initiatives include the unveiling of the Ekwulobia flyover and the expansion of the Amawbia-Ekwulobia-Uga road. Additionally, the Commissioner confirmed that newly constructed smart schools are ready for the upcoming academic session, with the Ministry of Education expected to provide enrollment information shortly.
