AMLSN Commends Senate for Med Lab University Bill, Urges Prompt Presidential Approval

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has endorsed the Senate’s bill for the new Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Jos and called on President Tinubu to sign it into law.

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has praised the Senate for passing the bill to establish the Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Jos. The organization described the move as a major milestone that will improve medical training, enhance diagnostic capabilities, and provide more opportunities for health students.

Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, the National President of AMLSN, representing over 150,000 professionals, formally requested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sign the bill into law immediately. He stated that the new university will function as a hub for research, biotechnology, and advanced diagnostic training, effectively addressing the nation’s increasing healthcare requirements.

The association highlighted that this transition from a federal college to a specialized university supports the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on job creation and medical education expansion. Furthermore, the group recognized the contributions of Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, for his efforts toward skills-based education. They also acknowledged the support of Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. The AMLSN remains confident that the university will strengthen national health security and improve long-term public health outcomes.
