Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable and famous for his hit song Zaazoo Zeh, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He was arraigned before the court this morning on five counts, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful possession of weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause harm.
Portable pleaded not guilty to the charges. Alongside him, nine of his aides were also arraigned before Magistrate O. L. Oke on similar charges.
The nine suspects include Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26).
The defendants faced a five-count charge, including felony, assault, restriction, possession of cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace with intent to kill.
They were accused of assaulting, restricting, and obstructing Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, who are town planners. The incident allegedly took place at Odogwu Bar, owned by Portable, while the officers were carrying out their lawful duties.
Following his not guilty plea, Portable’s counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, appealed to the court to grant him bail.
His counsel told the court that the singer “is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons.”
Magistrate O. L. Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case to March 5 for trial.
