The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Federal Government of employing ‘political terrorism’ by freezing statutory allocations meant for local governments in Osun State. This action, allegedly timed ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election, has impacted the payment of salaries, healthcare delivery, and educational services.
National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the withholding of these funds serves as a tactic to undermine the Osun State administration. The ADC further charged federal authorities with supporting the continued control of local councils by unelected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Additionally, the party reported that opposition figures have faced arbitrary arrests and intimidation by armed individuals, who allegedly operate with the support of some police officers.
The ADC argued that these maneuvers suggest the current federal administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, views political contests as warfare rather than democratic competition. The party warned that such conduct threatens democratic values and human dignity. Consequently, the ADC has demanded the immediate release of the frozen funds and the restoration of constitutional order, asserting that state institutions should not be manipulated for partisan gain.
