Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., the All Progressives Congress nominee for the Abia South Senatorial District, has condemned the reported removal of his name from the ballot for the 2027 elections. He labels the move as both illegal and unconstitutional, emphasizing that he is very much alive and still holds the party’s candidacy.
Currently serving as the representative for Obingwa West in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu secured his position following a primary election on May 16, 2026. This process covered 65 electoral wards and was monitored by both the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Department of State Services. On June 30, 2026, he was officially granted a certified copy of the results affirming his victory.
Erondu is challenging reports suggesting that Paul Ikonne has replaced him, noting that such an action conflicts with the 2026 Electoral Act. He pointed to Section 33 of the Act, which restricts candidate substitution strictly to instances of death, voluntary withdrawal, or court-ordered changes. Erondu confirmed he has neither withdrawn nor signed any notice of resignation. Consequently, he has urged the APC leadership and electoral authorities to adhere strictly to existing laws regarding the nomination process.
