Abdussamad Dasuki Calls for Improved Nigeria-Niger Relations to Combat Regional Insecurity

Representative Abdussamad Dasuki has urged President Tinubu to improve relations with Niger Republic to better address the cross-border security challenges plaguing Nigeria’s North-West.

Abdussamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives for the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in Sokoto State, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to repair diplomatic and security ties with the Niger Republic. Speaking in Sokoto following an award ceremony hosted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dasuki argued that the current poor state of relations between the two nations hinders the ability to combat banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism effectively.

The lawmaker emphasized that the shared border requires coordinated security operations and better intelligence sharing. He encouraged state governors to lobby the President, noting that many regional security threats are cross-border in nature. Dasuki advocated for a holistic security strategy, which includes the deployment of more forest guards to monitor remote areas and a potential constitutional path toward state policing.

During the event, Dasuki expressed his dedication to protecting the lives and property of his constituents. Local ADC leaders, including Abdullahi Maigwandu and Abubakar Sadiq Sanyinna, praised the lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development and effective legislative representation. The discussion underscored the urgent need for international cooperation to stabilize the Sahel region and protect communities along the frontier.
