A Catholic seminarian and several church members taken by armed men from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inoyi, Affa, located in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been freed. The abduction took place during a Sunday morning service when the gunmen raided the building.
News of their release was shared on Facebook by social media personality Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi. He noted that the captives were liberated after consistent efforts by security agencies and local officials to locate the perpetrators. Ugwuanyi praised Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his active role in the rescue, noting that the governor mounted significant pressure on the kidnappers following the incident.
The recovery effort included the Enugu State Director of the Department of State Services, the governor’s aide-de-camp, and the Udi Local Government Area Chairman, Ogbonnia Agu. Ugwuanyi confirmed the safe return of the brothers, attributing the success to the persistent pursuit of the captors. While a catechist abducted during the same event was freed shortly after the initial attack, the seminarian and the remaining individual were released later due to the mounting pressure on the gunmen. At the time of this report, the Enugu State Police Command had yet to provide an official statement on the situation.
