Missing teen found dead with severed hands; father arrested after TV plea.
Missing 13-year-old Keimani Latigue was found murdered with her hands cut off in an abandoned, burned home in Toledo, Ohio. Her father was arrested after speaking about her on TV.
Police called Keimani Latigue’s murder “one of the most horrific cases” they had seen. Her hands were severed, and her head was nearly detached, according to Columbus Police Lt. Brian Steel, who described the killer as “an absolute animal.”
Keimani’s father, Darnell Jones, 33, was arrested on March 25 after allegedly pulling a gun on officers. Police opened fire, hitting him multiple times. He underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
Jones has been charged with murder in connection with his daughter’s death. An autopsy confirmed Keimani died from multiple “incised wounds of the neck,” according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
Keimani was just days away from turning 14. Her mother, Tiara Kasten, described her as a homebody who loved school and playing basketball.
“I seen her on the 15th. Her dad brought her down to my house,” Kasten toldWTVG.
“Apparently my mother gave him permission and honestly it was just loving on my kid. We play video games,” Kasten said.
She was a student at Spring Elementary School.
“The students and staff at Spring Elementary are saddened by the loss of their friend and classmate, Keimani Latigue,” a Toledo Public Schools spokesperson told the TV station.
“Keimani will be remembered as being very personable and someone who got along well with others.”
